The offspring of renowned American artist Frank Stella are putting his first-ever Black Painting up for sale at Art Basel in Miami Beach this week, with a price tag of $45m. The artwork was created by Stella in 1958, when he was only 22 years old. If the painting sells for the asking price, it will rank among the most costly pieces by Stella ever sold. His previous auction record, also for a Black Painting, is $28m.
