The Singaporean government unveiled its revised National AI Strategy 2.0, detailing its approach to fostering innovation and addressing the challenges of artificial intelligence (AI). The strategy is divided into three systems, underpinned by 10 “enablers” and 15 action steps. The plan, first introduced in 2019, focuses on three key societal areas: “activity drivers,” “people and communities,” and “infrastructure and environment.”

The revised strategy includes the development of AI “Centers of Excellence” across companies in Singapore to promote advanced AI value creation and usage in crucial sectors. The plan also aims to equip government agencies with specialized knowledge, technical capabilities, and regulatory tools, and to enhance AI proficiency among all public officers.

The Singaporean government intends to use its resources to support AI adoption in the public sector and aims to increase the number of local AI experts to 15,000 through AI-specific training programs and talent pipelines. The plan also includes increasing computing capacity through partnerships with industry leaders, including chipmakers and cloud service providers.

The strategy will be implemented over the next 3–5 years to support Singapore’s ambitions in the AI sector. This move aligns with global trends, with countries like the UK investing heavily in AI and companies like OpenAI expanding their reach into new regions. The US, a leading chip manufacturing hub, has begun tightening export controls on its technology for developing high-level AI systems.
