Jan Fabre. The Castles in the Hour Blue
22/09/2018 - 05/12/2018
BUILDING opens The Castles in the Hour Blue, the first solo exhibition ever hosted in Milan by the artist, theatrical creator and author Jan Fabre. The exhibition presents a journey through the most “romantic” and poetic, but always radical and symbolic, imagery of one of the most interesting artists on the contemporary scene.
On view, a temporary site-specific installation created ad hoc for BUILDING and a “world premiere” selection of artworks – for the main part, never seen before – that compose a thematic exhibition focused on the two recurring themes of the castles and the Hour Blue.
Theorized by the famous entomologist Jean-Henri Fabre, great source of inspiration for the Belgian artist, the Hour Blue is that moment between night and day, a moment of total silence in nature.
The castles, portrayed in the magical moment of the Hour Blue, are the place of the romantic fairytale par excellence, and they represent the artistic and spiritual metaphor of the mind of the artist, “knight of despair and warrior of beauty”.
Among the subjects of the artworks stands out Tivoli (1990), one of the works that consecrated the artistic career of Jan Fabre worldwide.
The exhibition continues in the sacred venues of Portinari Chapel and Sant’Eustorgio Cathedral, where the relics of the Magi are kept: the three Wise Men are also the subject of the three main sculptures of the exhibition, on display at BUILDING.
