Keiichi Tanaami Teases New Superstar Collaboration With Adidas Originals

Japanese artist Keiichi Tanaami has unveiled a sneak peek of his upcoming Superstar collaboration with adidas Originals. This new release is set to coincide with his retrospective exhibition titled Keiichi Tanami: Memory Adventures at the National Museum of New Art in Tokyo, launching next month, alongside his current solo exhibition at NANZUKA’s 3110NZ by LDH kitchen.

The SUPERSTAR TANAAMI sneaker is as imaginative as Tanaami’s vibrant, maximalist artwork, featuring leather tassels of various shapes and colors, and distinctive beady, sun-rimmed eyes on the tongue of each shoe. While specific details of the release remain undisclosed, sneaker enthusiasts and collectors will appreciate the meticulous attention to detail, including the shoe’s drawstring bag, box, and the use of full-grain leather.

Tanaami’s exhibition at NANZUKA, titled Nancy’s Adventure, showcases three paintings inspired by the “Nancy” comic, which was first introduced to Japan in 1938 and gained popularity post-WWII. Tanaami reflects on his artistic journey, stating, “In the 1960s, I was profoundly influenced by the Pop Art of Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, which led me to explore a form of expression that embraced my deep-seated fascination with comics and commercial art.”
