Rian Johnson Announces Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery for 2025 Release
Rian Johnson has made it official: the third chapter of his Knives Out saga, titled Wake Up Dead Man, is on its way. The film is scheduled to hit Netflix in 2025, bringing back Daniel Craig in his acclaimed role as the astute detective Benoit Blanc. While specific plot details and additional casting remain under wraps, anticipation is already building.
Johnson shared his enthusiasm for the project and the detective genre on X, noting, “I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.”
The Knives Out series has enjoyed both critical acclaim and commercial success. Its second installment, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, debuted in 2022 and continued the franchise’s momentum after Netflix secured rights to two films for a staggering $469 million USD.
A teaser for the film has been released, promising more updates to come.
Rian Johnson’s tweet from May 24, 2024, encapsulates his passion for the genre: “I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.”
He also took to Twitter to unveil the title of the next Benoit Blanc mystery, setting the stage for another intriguing adventure.
