Emma Stone And Jesse Plemons Are Set To Star In Yorgos Lanthimos' Upcoming Project Bugonia

Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons are set to star in Yorgos Lanthimos’ upcoming project, “Bugonia,” which was announced shortly after the premiere of his recent film at the Cannes Film Festival. The movie, directed by Lanthimos, will feature a screenplay by Will Tracy. It revolves around two men obsessed with conspiracy theories who abduct a powerful corporate CEO, believing her to be an alien plotting the destruction of Earth.

“Bugonia” has secured distribution with Focus Features in the United States and Universal Pictures for international release. This marks a departure for Lanthimos from Searchlight, which has distributed several of his acclaimed films, including “Poor Things” and “The Favourite,” as well as the soon-to-be-released “Kinds of Kindness.”

The film is an adaptation of the 2003 South Korean sci-fi comedy “Save the Green Planet” and has been developed for the English-speaking audience by Miky Lee’s CJ ENM, Ari Aster of “Midsommar” fame, and Lars Knudsen through Square Peg. The production team includes Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe of Element Pictures, alongside Lanthimos, Aster, Knudsen, Stone, and Lee and Jerry Kyoungboum Ko of CJ ENM, with co-financing by Fremantle.

Emma Stone, a frequent collaborator with Lanthimos, having worked with him on “The Favourite” and “Poor Things,” and Jesse Plemons, will also be seen in “Kinds of Kindness,” which is set for release on June 26. The film is structured in three parts and, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s review from Cannes, offers a refreshing narrative approach that, while potentially challenging for audiences on initial viewing, reveals deeper connections and themes upon reflection.
