CHANEL has revealed Martin Scorsese’s Bleu de Chanel film with Timothée Chalamet and Havana Rose Liu
CHANEL has finally revealed its highly anticipated Bleu de Chanel campaign film, a stunning collaboration featuring Timothée Chalamet and Havana Rose Liu under the direction of the legendary Martin Scorsese. Set against the backdrop of New York City’s most iconic locations, including subways, loft apartments, and dimly-lit bars, the film portrays a man on a journey of self-discovery. Scorsese’s narrative delves into themes of truth, optimism, authenticity, and vulnerability, aligning seamlessly with Chalamet’s rapidly ascending career. Since his breakthrough role in Luca Guadagnino’s “Call Me By Your Name,” Chalamet has captivated audiences in Greta Gerwig’s “Lady Bird,” the “Dune” trilogy, an upcoming Bob Dylan biopic, and a remake of Roald Dahl’s “Wonka.”
The anticipation for this release has been palpable, and the campaign does not disappoint, marking a new chapter for Chanel. Chalamet, with his youthful exuberance, and Scorsese, a cinematic titan familiar with Chanel’s essence (having directed the original Bleu de Chanel campaign in 2010), create a compelling narrative. “I’m a New York boy and a New York actor; he’s the ultimate New York director and artist,” says Chalamet about working with Scorsese.
Chalamet’s journey in the film is intertwined with Havana Rose Liu, his love interest, who guides him from a monochromatic solitude to a vibrant, Scorsese-tinged reality. The film explores the tension between fame and artistic integrity, with Scorsese noting its focus on the challenges of maintaining authenticity amidst celebrity. Blue hues subtly thread through the narrative, symbolizing moments of self-reflection and transformation, ultimately showcasing love’s triumph over fame, with New York City as the ultimate backdrop.
Chalamet joined the ranks of CHANEL ambassadors in May, representing the iconic masculine fragrance, Bleu de Chanel. His French-American heritage and rising star status make him the perfect face for one of the most prestigious French fashion houses. The campaign, set to launch on October 16, offers a glimpse into its creation below.
Bleu de Chanel is celebrated for its aromatic blend of sandalwood, citrus, labdanum, vetiver, and mint, originally crafted by Jacques Polge and now overseen by his son, Olivier Polge, Chanel’s In-House Perfumer-Creator. Olivier Polge describes the fragrance as embodying the essence of a man who defies stereotypes, embraces authenticity, and is unafraid to show vulnerability beneath a tough exterior.
