The BMW Art Car Series, which began in 1975, combines art and motorsport by inviting renowned artists to design various car models. The third series, unveiled in 1977, featured the BMW 320i Turbo adorned with artwork by Roy Lichtenstein. His design, inspired by the 24-hour Le Mans cycle, was styled in his signature pop-art style.

To mark Lichtenstein’s 100th birthday, PUMA has partnered with BMW M Motorsport to create a new capsule collection that pays tribute to the artist’s Art Car. The collection includes sneakers and streetwear garments, all featuring Lichtenstein’s dynamic design elements such as overlapping dots, stripes, and other signature patterns.

The collection’s standout pieces are the PUMA suede sneakers and the oversized bomber jacket. The sneakers feature a soft beige body with a rising sun illustration and a yellow and blue printed Formstrip. The bomber jacket, on the other hand, boldly layers patterns from the Art Car with other popular Lichtenstein illustrations.

The lookbook pairs these items with the collection’s block-toned green sweatpants. From the sporty bomber to the streetwear pieces, PUMA presents a motorsport wardrobe that beautifully revives the unique artistic spirit of the series.

PUMA and BMW celebrated the launch of the new collection with an exclusive event that displayed Lichtenstein’s BMW 320i Turbo. The event also encouraged creators to design their own art pieces in the unique styles of the historic car collaborators.
